Safeguarding
How we keep children and adults at risk safe.
Our commitment
Everyone has the right to be safe. Many people who come to us have been through war, exploitation or abuse, and we take our duty to protect children and adults at risk very seriously.
What we do to keep people safe
- We recruit volunteers carefully, with references and DBS checks where a role needs them
- Everyone working with us is trained to recognise and report concerns
- We keep clear boundaries: we don’t accept gifts, lend money or meet people in private homes alone
- We keep what you tell us confidential — except when someone is at serious risk of harm
If you are worried about someone
If someone is in danger right now, call 999.
Otherwise, tell us: email helpline@uact.org.uk with the subject ‘Safeguarding’, or call 020 8629 2323. Our safeguarding lead will respond as quickly as possible and, where needed, involve the council’s safeguarding team or the police.
If your concern is about someone from UACT
Email helpline@uact.org.uk with the subject ‘Confidential — for the trustees’. It will be handled by trustees who are not involved. Serious incidents are reported to the Charity Commission, as charities must do.
