Official information

Answers on this site explain official rules in plain language and link to the original source. Information from GOV.UK and other public bodies remains the property of those bodies; much of it is Crown copyright and available under the Open Government Licence.

Not legal advice

The information here is general and is checked regularly against official sources, but rules change. It is not legal advice.

UACT explains official information and helps with practical things such as letters, appointments and interpreting. We do not give advice on individual immigration or asylum cases — for that, use an adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) or a regulated solicitor. Our helper can show you how to find one.

Before you act

Rules, amounts and deadlines can change. Before you apply for something or make a decision, check the official page linked in the answer. Decisions on visas, benefits and other applications are made by the government body concerned, not by UACT.

UACT is an independent charity. We are not part of the Home Office, the DWP, the NHS, your council or any other government body.

This website is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999.

Other websites

We link only to official and trusted organisations. We are not responsible for the content of other websites.

Names and logo

The name ‘United Action Charity Trust’, ‘UACT’ and our logo identify our charity. Please don’t use them in a way that suggests you are UACT or work with us, unless we have agreed it.
